This scene is SO important. Maleficent is with someone she trusts, someone she considers a friend. And then the next thing she knows, she wakes up in pain, bleeding, with her wings burned off. A huge part of her has been destroyed.
Rape is so prominent in our culture that it is in a Disney movie. Maybe not explicitly, but it is very clear what this scene represents and it is so sad.
I fucking cried my eyes out during this scene
AJ even confirmed that this is what this scene was a metaphor for (x) - just because i saw someone say today that this is not what this scene is about
'We were very conscious that it was a metaphor for rape': The actress explained how the scene in which her character has her wings ripped off her body while in a drug-induced sleep had to be something 'so violent and aggressive' that it would make her 'lose all sense of her maternity, her womanhood and her softness'
when a man violates a woman, he cuts off her wings.
On her way to the Black Hills powwow this past weekend Asia Black Bull, (Lakota/Korean) a jingle dress dancer and current Miss Teen Rosebud from the Rosebud Rez, and her family stopped to pick out a Halloween costume.
When she came across… the “Indian princess” costume, she took offense and stated, “I am not a Halloween Costume!”
You certainly are not. Keep dancing and representing your Oyate you make us proud and help to show the world that we are more than costume.
It was my first post on Tumblr…two years ago! And a first Pink Day in LA event organized in Guild Wars 2.
To be honest, it never happened again on our server and not in such a grand way overall in GW2 as it did back then. LA was full for at least two days and people were really enjoying their time and took a special effort to express it. I wouldn’t mind to be a part of it once more and perhaps this year, thanks to Megaserver, we could make it a big deal, grand party, just like back then?
